How it Began
The famous Water Winger was born from a moment of danger and frustration. As ash drifted in from a nearby wildfire, Bryan Coffey, the inventor of the now Patented Water Winger No-Ladder Rooftop Wildfire Sprinkler and the founder of Wildfire Equipment, found himself repeatedly climbing a long ladder up to a steep, two-story roof to try to connect hoses and secure garden sprinklers on the burning hot, metal peak. Shimmying along a hot, steep, tin roof peak with tools, 2×4’s and sprinklers in tow, rushing, desperate on that scorching day in August to save his cabin. As the smoke thickened and the sky turned orange, alone, high up on that roof, it suddenly became very clear that there has to be a better way, a safer way to protect our homes from these increasing wildfires.
From Problem to Innovation
What started as a personal challenge soon became a collaborative effort. With input from wildfire-experienced homeowners, engineers, and firefighters, we developed and refined many prototypes until the design finally met our high standards of safety, efficiency and performance. Today, the popular Water Winger is in use across Canada and the United States, helping homeowners and professionals to safely protect more homes and properties each wildfire season.
Growing to Meet Demand
As demand continues to rise, we continue to innovate. We continue to expand our production capacity and broadening our product offerings. Our online store continues to grow to provide the specialized fire hose, large-bore fittings, valves, splitters, and various sprinklers necessary for the best structure protection systems—making it easier to get prepared with premium wildfire equipment designed and made in Canada.
Acknowledgements
We are deeply grateful to Jake Jacobson and the Columbia Shuswap Regional District Structure Protection Crews for their guidance, feedback, and field testing throughout the development of the Water Winger. Hearing about their successes during the intense 2023 wildfire season—and the many homes protected—is incredibly rewarding.
I am sure you will find many situations where Water Wingers and our other innovative wildfire equipment will prove to be invaluable.
